What is Amethyst? |
Amethyst is one of the most striking variants of quartz, and its popularity has grown from the pharaohs of ancient Egypt to Ekaterina II of Russia. The trace amounts of iron in quartz give amethyst its varied color, which ranges from mauve to deep violet. Amethyst can often be found in granite outcrops. |

Origins |
The largest amethysts come from South American countries, such as Brazil and Uruguay. Most of these amethysts are found in caves large enough to enter on foot, while the most intense purple amethysts come from African countries such as Namibia and Zambia. |
